Third Grade Curriculum
Religion: We review the sacraments. We make Mass books to help us learn about the different parts of the Mass. We also learn the Apostle's Creed. We have researched saints and each student works on an individual saint project. We learn to respect one another, learn just how much God loves each of us, learn that God lives within each of us, and learn how each of us was put here on Earth for a reason.
Science: We learn about rocks, we build ecosystems, and we learn about life cycles where we get catepilllars, watch them go into their chrysallises and transform into beautiful butterflies. We also watch tadpoles grow their legs as they begin to turn into frogs.
Social Studies: We learn about land forms of the United States and make a three dimensional map. We learn about different communities and build them. We also learn about American Indians and do all sorts of fun activities, including mask-making, dancing and constructing the different types of indian villages. The children also learn to sand-paint.
Math: We tell time, round numbers, add and subtract with regrouping, Multiply by three numbers, divide, learn all about fractions, and work on graphing and measurement. Skills are reinforced on a daily basis through the Simple Solutions Math Program.
English/Grammar: Vocabulary development and grammer are reinforced daily through the English Simple Solutions Program and Word Wisdom. We also learn to write in cursive.
Third Grade Rules
Our rules basically follow one rule which is treat others the way you want to be treated. If my students follow this one rule, all others will follow. There would be no name calling or fighting. We would always treat each other with respect. We would keep our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves, we would not damage other peoples' property, and we would listen when the teacher or another student is talking. We talk a lot about respect for each other.
