   Structure and Order

The Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church will guide the shared human experience of our students, their families, the school community, and the neighborhood. The principles of the Dignity of the Human Person, Solidarity among all God’s people and the Common Good support the rationale for the intellectual, human, social and spiritual components of our school.

At Our Lady of Peace School, students learn to respect one another and our world. Students are taught a curriculum of self-control. This proactive approach enables the resolution of minor issues, and provide the occasion for individual and group feedback that may serve to deescalated a situation or concern, and afford the young person to make better choices.

The Rainbow Fish - A Lesson in Friendship

From learningtogive.org: The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister is the story of a beautiful fish that is unique because he has silver scales all over his body. The other fish are impressed by his beauty and want one of his scales. He does not want to share and consequently the fish do not play with him. Confused, he seeks a solution from the other ocean life. The advice was, "Give a glittering scale to each of the other fish, then you will discover how to be happy." While he was reluctant at first, he discovered that the advice was correct.

In November, at Our Lady of Peace School, all students participated in this lesson of friendship. Kindergarten and seventh grade students put on the play of the Rainbow fish for the entire student body. Then older students were paired with younger students for a rainbow fish art project, during which they had time to socialize and become friends.

Multiculturalism

The word “Catholic” reflects unity and universality. We are called as Catholic Christians to affirm the dignity of every person. To this end, our teachers expose students to the Spanish Language as well as other cultures and their forms of expression through music, song, art and literature.

Enrichment Arts Academy

The Our Lady of Peace School Enrichment Arts Academy offers stimulating after-school activities right on the school campus. Students are engaged in meaningful programs, many of which allow the children to gain knowledge of a different culture each quarter from teachers and experts in their fields. Classes are reasonably priced and run immediately after the regular school day. We offer Language Arts and Math and Science under the supervision of our Walsh Education Division faculty and students, as well as enrichment for all age level of students and individual interests. Each quarter classes will be offered in martial arts, art, cooking, French, chess, reader’s theater, book club, computers, photography, creative movement, and more.
